ST DOMINIC’S PRE-SEASON BOYS’ HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
Our First Boys’ Hockey Team took part in the St Dominic’s pre-season tournament this past weekend.
Their first game was against one of their toughest opponents(Ferrum) and they held them to a 0 - 0 draw. Next was Newcastle High where a runaway victory of 7 – 0 ensued. Unfortunately the lights went out and we had to play Ladysmith High the next morning. This game also ended in a 0 – 0 draw. The boys’ performance allowed them to go through to the semi-finals where they convincingly beat Vryheid High 3 – 1.
Unfortunately, victory was not ours against St Dominic’s who took full advantage of their home (astro) turf, beating COLAB 0 – 1.
Our boys ended 2nd of the 8 teams present and only had two goals against them. Nqubeko Mngomezulu was awarded the best striker of the tournament. Well done boys! We are proud of you!
After a long athletics season, we are proud to announce that nine of our athletes have been chosen to represent the Umzinyathi District at the KZN Schools Athletics championships in Durban on the 24th and 25th of February. The following learners will represent the team:
DHS is very proud of these learners and we can’t wait to see what the end result of the weekend’s activities will be. We wish you all the best of luck.
FERRUM NETBALL TOURNAMENT
On Saturday, 18 February, the 1st team Netball Girls participated in the Spur & Panarotti Ferrum Tournament. Our girls won convincingly against Estcourt (13 – 3) and St Dominic’s (18 – 2).
Unfortunately we lost against hosts Ferrum (11 – 5), and after progressing to the semi-finals, played a very close game, losing to Pionier (6 – 3).
The girls played extremely well and we look forward to an excellent season of Netball!
ZORBA GOES HEAD TO HEAD WITH LANDBOU HENDRIK POTGIETER
This past Saturday, our 1st rugby boys took to the field for the first time this season, at Sarel Cilliers’ annual Rugby Day.
The game was very physical, with both teams showing impressive skill and determination. Cebelihle Kubheka, Koos Mdladla and Dylan Maré scored beautiful tries and our boys played their hearts out. Unfortunately the game ended in a 19 all draw.
Well done boys and we look forward to a positive season ahead!
