ESKOM SCIENCE EXPO
On Friday, 29 July, many excited DHS learners travelled to Ladysmith with Mrs Haschke to take part in the annual ESKOM Science expo. Our learners performed very well and we are proud to announce that we walked away with six bronze medals and one gold medal.
Congratulations to everyone who took part.
Krushil Sewmangal was awarded a Category Prize as well as the Top Male Award for his efforts. He, along with Shaquel Tontpal, will be travelling to Boksburg to compete in the International Science Fair, We wish you two gents the best of luck!
ST DOMINIC’S ACADEMY 5-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT
On Saturday, 24 July, 20 of our learners, under the watchful eye of Mrs Raffenberg, took part in a 5-a-side hockey Tournament offered by St Dominic’s Academy in Newcastle.
Three teams from DHS took part: The Dream Team (Larnell Nero, Andile Ntshangase, Karl Thom, Dean Lambert, Nommie Ndlovu, Gabby Carter and Abby Box); Impact (Keagan Donaldson, Duane Laurence, Bryce Sharp, Nadia Raffenberg, Anja Prigge and Nontu Khuzwayo) and The Beasts (Tian Wang, Preston Caldecott, Stefan Thom, Jayde Caldecott, Abigail Tiley and Andrew Tiley).
It was a long day with many fast 12 minute matches played on the Astro.
The Dream Team did the best by coming second in their age group. Bryce Sharp got an award as the player who advantaged his team the most by hitting an overhead ball from the centre to the direction of the goal post, allowing Keagan to touch and score.
St Dom’s has hinted that there will be another tournament in the fourth term which is great since our hockey players need all the exposure and practise they can get!
Our choir is hard at work in the lead up to their first performance on Thursday, 25 August at the NN Choir Festival. We wish them all the best.
The school gym is available to learners that are serious about getting fit and are over the age of sixteen. It will be open Monday to Thursday, 14:30 – 16:00 and Friday, 13:00 – 14:30. The cost is R100 per term.
Please speak to Mr Lippke or Mrs Nortje should you require further information.
MFUNDO KHUMALO VISITS THE SCHOOL
Old scholar Mfundo Khumalo held seminars for our Grade 11 boys during the week. These focused on life and business skills with the message of the importance of core values and morals in our society being paramount. We thank Mfundo for imparting his knowledge on our learners, and do hope that this empowers them further to become successful citizens of our beautiful country.
Dundee High’s cricket season kicked off with a bang when the U/15 team travelled to Vryheid
High School. After a hard fought battle in which several batsmen showed their grit, DHS managed to win the game by 57 runs. Well done boys!
